Chapter 3-4: Do you think Obed received fair treatment?

I believe that Obed definitely received fair treatment during the mediation. I think that Obed is really stubborn because he doesn’t even think that he did anything wrong at all. Beth seemed to be a little bit of a push over about the whole situation and she should have stood up for herself a little better. I think Obed should have appreciated what Toloki did and thanked him for the work he put in. At this point in the story I really like Toloki and I’m starting to dislike Obed.

Chapters 1-3 Response

I have read the first few chapters of the book Cion by Zakes Mda. I have to say that I’m impressed with the writers ability to create characters who are not only interesting in way but also cool to see how they act and their life situations. I believe it takes a great writer to be able to insert themselves into their own book. Mda created himself in the book as the sciolist which I found very interesting.

I think it is really cool how this book takes place right here at Ohio University. It’s really cool to read about the characters on Court Street and other places around campus. It’s fascinating to hear them talk about the famed holiday here known as Halloween.

I like Toloki as a character because he can joke around in ways that certain people understand. I don’t particularly like Obed though because he is pretty much a nobody. I wish that he had some sort desire in life, some sort of drive that led him to an ultimate goal, but he just lives with his parents and he’s fine with that.

Cion so far is just okay for me, as in it’s not so interesting that I want to keep reading it from start to finish; however, the book is not so boring that I don’t want to ever pick it up again. I can tell that this book is going to pick up and probably end up being a pretty good book.
